APTOPIX SAG Awards Show

Well as promissed, here’s your latest scores.

A surprising night at the SAG awards saw Kate Winslet nab another award for best supporting actress in “The Reader”, (even though myself and the Oscars still think she’s a lead in that one), and pulled herself together for a slightly more controlled, less “name dropping” speech. Big props given to her respectful shout out to both Mingella and Pollack though, who are definitely at the heart of this film.

Meryl Streep shocked everyone, including herself, buy stealing the other coveted award in the ladies division for her leading role in “Doubt”. “I didn’t even buy a dress!” she exclaimed when she got up to the mike. That’s OK Meryl, we love ya just the way you are.

In what would be a sudden upset, (if they hadn’t been sharing the awards all down the line already) Sean Penn scored the vote for the best lead actor in “Milk”. But even he had the grace to poke fun at what he called the “dogfight” that all the critics were making of this, and something tells me Vegas will be very busy splitting the odds between these two. But come on, who are we kidding?? This is still Rourke’s game to lose…

And as expected, Heath Ledger was crowned for his performance as best supporting actor for “The Dark Knight”. Gary Oldman accepted the award on his behalf, but we all know that the entire room of actors was was right there with him.

So who knows how this will or won’t affect the Oscars, because as they say on the streets of Hollywood, it’s still anyones game.

(Except you Mickey…except you.)

Up next are the BAFTA’s, which take place on Sunday, February 8th.    So stay tuned….

  1. I would like to start by saying I am a big fan of Kate Winslet’s work.
She chooses interesting and eclectic roles and is excellent in everything she is in. That being said, pull it together girl!! The acceptance speech for the SAG was improved but the woman still doesn’t seem to have anything to say. Honestly! Off the cuff does not work for you Kate!!! Take a bloody pen and a piece of paper and write something down! You have a couple of weeks to work on it. You are being rewarded for excellence in your craft. Your acceptance should be humble, thoughtful and dignified.
No bawling, no babbling and no need to thank your hairstylist!

  2. Right there with ya, “Sorely” girl!
This could be Kate’s best chance at finally winning an Oscar, and we don’t need another “Forest Whitaker” foul up, or worse yet some fool list of people we could care less about getting their 2 sceond mention of fame. Who’s next? The man who bakes her biscotti??
C’mon kate, you gotta do better than this.
